Opening or closing an account

Opening an account
If you are already registered for online banking, from the 'Apply now' menu, select the new account that you wish to open.
If you are not already registered for online banking you can apply for a new account and register at the same time by selecting Apply for a new account from the sign in page.

You can open a maximum of 5 Web Saver accounts at any one time (fixed or variable, sole or joint).  Variable Web Saver Extra is limited to one account per customer.

To help you identify what you're saving for, you can name your Web Saver accounts.
If you open a joint Web Saver account, the second named customer will need to be registered for online separately to accept the terms and conditions once the account has been opened. The account will show as awaiting authorisation until this has been completed.

Closing an account
If you wish to close your variable rate Halifax Web Saver or variable rate Halifax Web Saver Extra, please contact us on 08456 02 00 00. Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you would like to close a fixed rate Halifax Web Saver, please note that conditions apply regarding closing this type of account early. To discuss your options please contact 08456 02 00 00 and one of our advisers will be able to help you.

If you want to close any other account please visit your local branch.

Accounts awaiting authorisation/ details

If you open a joint Web Saver account, both customers are required to accept the terms and conditions as the account will otherwise show as 'awaiting authorisation'.  If the second customer is not registered for the online service they will need to complete their registration before they can do this.
Once the second customer is registered for online banking they should add the new Websaver account to 'My accounts' if it's not already displayed.  They will then be required to select 'waiting authorisation' on the new account and accept the terms and conditions.  If all other account requirements have been satisfied the account will then be fully opened.

All account holders are required to prove their identity when opening a new account.  If an account status shows as 'awaiting details' it means that there are still some identification details outstanding.  You will need to provide suitable identification to your local branch.
