Receiving money from abroad
If you are a Bank of Scotland current account customer, but don't use our online banking service – why not register for online banking today?
Sending money abroad
Sending money overseas is simple – you'll need the following information for the destination account:
- Euro payments: BIC and IBAN are required for Euro transfers to an EU/EEA country
- Rest of the world: beneficiary name and bank details
And don't worry, we even save the recipient details once you have made a payment – this means there's no need to enter them again in future when you want to send money to the same place, whether in branch, over the phone or online.
Transfer payments online for only £9.50
That's £10 less than if you do it in branch or over the phone (normally £19.50).
| Online |
Log into online banking and select International Payments from the 'Take me to' option under 'My accounts' |
| Telephone | If you're registered for Telephone Banking, just call 08457 21 31 41 in the UK (or +44 (0)1133 80 95 74 from outside the UK) (lines open 8am to 8pm seven days a week) |
| Branch | Call into your nearest branch and speak to us |
Sending money abroad by post requires a foreign draft. Foreign drafts are available in all major currencies and the cost of the draft depends on the amount involved. Our current draft fees range from £6 to £15. Just ask us in branch for more details or give us a call.
Receiving money abroad
Transfers to your Bank of Scotland account can be received in foreign currency or sterling. Payments received in foreign currency are converted into sterling and credited to your account. To ensure your funds are received as quickly as possible you must instruct the overseas bank to send funds via SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication).
There are three things the overseas bank should know so they can process the transfer as quickly as possible:
- Where to send the money to. Quote Bank of Scotland, Glasgow with the swift code BOFSGB2S
- The name of your bank. Quote Bank of Scotland and the BIC code which you'll find at the top-right hand corner of your Bank of Scotland statement
- The beneficiary account which is the account the money is going to. You'll also need to include the IBAN number for your account which you'll find at the top right hand corner of your Bank of Scotland statement
