Pre-existing/known medical conditions
You must notify us when taking out the policy of any medical condition that you or any other travellers are aware of by phoning the Travel Insurance Department. You must also tell us if a medical condition arises after taking out the policy.
A member of staff will discuss the condition and advise you whether you are covered. You or the named traveller will not be covered if either of you were aware of the condition at the time of applying for cover and did not advise us. It is a condition of your policy that we are notified of any chronic or recurring illness or medical condition. Failure to do so may prejudice any claim submitted to us.
We require the ages of your children at the time of purchasing the insurance policy.
Travelling under a Family Insurance policy
The lead traveller and partner are able to travel independently under a Family Insurance policy, but children named on the policy must be travelling with at least one named adult.
You can travel without your Travel Insurance documents, although we always advise to take the policy booklet and schedule with you as this explains what you need to do in an emergency and also provides useful contact numbers. If you do not take the policy documents, you should take the emergency contact numbers.
Business trips can be covered but business goods and samples are not. The policy can’t be extended to cover people to carry out manual work either.
We cover missed flights if the scheduled public transport service fails to get you to the airport on time due to strike, industrial action, adverse weather conditions or mechanical breakdown. We would also provide cover if the private car you are travelling in breaks down or is directly involved in an accident.
We don’t cover cancelled flights. It is the airline’s responsibility to provide alternative travel arrangements and compensation.
If this happens you won’t be covered by this insurance policy. You should pursue a claim through ATOL or ABTA.
Personal belongings covered under Halifax Home Insurance
As long as you have selected the additional personal belongings coverage, your personal belongings are covered when you travel under your Bank of Scotland Home Insurance. You will also get a 20% discount on your travel insurance policy if you choose to remove the personal baggage section of cover as this is covered by your household policy.
You are not covered under this policy if you cancel your trip for this reason. However, if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) declare your destination is unsafe to visit and advise against travel you would be covered. Also, from September 2006, if you are injured as a result of a terrorist act we will pay your medical expenses.
High risk/dangerous sports activities
These are activities in which there may be an increased risk of accident or injury. For a full list of the activities that we don't cover please see the policy booklet. You will normally need specialist insurance.
World Explorer Insurance and high-risk activities
As long as the activity is incidental to your trip, we may cover you under a World Explorer policy. For a full list of activities that are not covered please see the policy booklet or call us on 0800 032 1751.
Your Annual Insurance will cover you for skiing and snowboarding if you have selected the Winter Sports addition to the policy and this is shown on your schedule. Please note, you are not covered under the medical emergency section of the policy if you are participating in a winter sports activity and you have not specified this on your schedule .
You can find a list of activities, which you are not covered for within you policy literature. The list is subject to change and you should consult it regularly to ensure full cover is in force. If you are in any doubt as to whether your activity is covered please contact us.
Coverage for my children on school trips
Your children are not covered in these circumstances. We can arrange single trip policies for them but they would be in the name of the adult and would be charged an adult premium.
